Objectives: Prof. Andreas Zimmermann, LL.M (Harvard) is the main editor of the Commentary on the Statute of the ICJ (OUP, 2nd. ed, 2012; 3rd ed forthcoming 2018) and has appeared in several high-profile cases before the ICJ such as the Bosnian Genocide case, the Kosovo advisory proceedings, and most recently the case brought by Ukraine against the Russian Federation. He will discuss the extent of the Court’s jurisdiction, outline its procedure and address the effects of the Court’s judgments on the merits of a case in light of his experiences as both, an academic writer on the Court, and as somebody who has appeared on several occasions before the Court.
